Dirken will smile as he see Zuki but also move very quickly away from the Gorgon. If his friends insist on fighting in close combat maybe he can toss a magical ball on top of the bests head so its body protects his friends from the blast and take the major blunt of the blast.

Okay, Hrrd is right up in this thing's ... face, so he is going to try to pummel it as hard as he can with his club. He was considering trying to hold its mouth open to see if someone could try to stuff one of those magic balls inside it, but that seems a bit too far fetched.

He somehow manages to get behidn the creature and stay out of the range of the snakes as well, but he knows they will immediately attack him should he get anyway closer...

Sven has done right in staying away...

... Because Dirken throws another of his strange weapons right between where the snakes
grow out of the monster's head-shaped rump, the flames sparkle high and miss the half-elf
only by a few inches...

And this time, the creature shivers, and is shaken to the point where it looses height and almost crashes on the ground...

The creature opens its mouth, though, and, in a strange, high-pitched voice,
begins to pronounce weird-sounding words...

"Go for cover!"

Over at the balcony, the Great Svenny has dropped his bow and shouts.

"Go for cover! That is the magic tongue of the abyss!"

in the humanoid face in the center of it's bizarre belly...

...And the chanting, while still hearable, slows down...

The snakes over him hiss and preapre to strike down on the bearman...

But them, from behind Karl, another ray of white,
shining light crosses the destryoed throne room and hat the beast, more
stunning than wounding it...

And as Hrrd dives down under the sharp fangs of the giant cobras,
it is Erdath's turn...

This is the end, the final moment. Enjoy it, because it will be yours for all time... Or until the next enemy surfaces.

...From behind, like if he was a snake himself, Erdath, pushes himself from the ground to reach the sword.
He almost gets to it, when the monster, already weakened by the fierce attacks from all sides,
has toose height again and almost smashes the elf under it,
between the open wound that is the loose end of its neck and the steel remains of the Well of Souls...

But, driven by the force of a man already way over his limits,
Erdath fights on and finally gets a firm grip around Black Flame's burning blade,
cutting himself deep into his own fingers... [4 DAM]

Noone else can see what exactly happens then...

The demonic meduse shivers, and its giant jaws snap for Hrrd's Warhammer...
The snake heads raise, lashing out for Sven, and their poised lips touch his iron boots,
burning them away as they touch them...

And then, the snakes begin to twitch as if from a spasm, and the giant green eyes of the gorgon widen in
a sudden moment of clarity and terror...

And then, whatever magic has held the creature in the air,
simply fails, and the gorgon begins to drift towards the left,
and crashes into the remains of Mant's beautiful swan boat, impaling itself on the wooden planks...

As it goes down, the demon winces and dwindles, like if all liquid was soaked out of it
by an invisible force...

And then,
the gorgon finally touches the stone soil,
and lays still.

It is Audi, who had run for one of the dead Blackmoorian's warlances,
who first realizes what has happened,
and youthful laughter and yelling fills the room as the young Afridhi
drops his weapons begins to jump up and down like a child.

"The beast is dead! The beast is dead! We have won!"

But then the young warrior's eyes grow big again, in total surprise.

Behind you, next to a baffled Gawaine, between the ragged curtains that
where once used to divide the Duchy of Ten's mighty throne room,
stands two figures.

One is the wizard Jallapierie, his hands still glowing from the spell he forced against
the inferal creature at your feet.

The other one is an elf, of the same blond hair, but noticeably older than your
elvish companions.
Sven and Erdath immediately recognize the man as Lord Menander Ithamis,
king of the Cumasti Elves and as such, the Westryn's mortal enemy.

Erdath will extricate his hand from the Medusa and pull Black Flame free. When he turns and sees Lord Ithamis he will immediately go to one knee and bow before him. "Greetings my Lord, we received reports that you were killed and I hoped it were not true and alas, they were mere lies of the enemy." Yet he remains weary of any other attacks that may come.

Sven shouts "Grandfather!" then he lands in front of Lord Menander and Jal where he drops to one knee before Lord Ithamis and then rises saying "It is good to see you Grandfather!" and they embrace briefly, before Sven turns to Jal "It is good to see you as well Jal. Your help was very timely!" He then steps back out of the way and begins to survey the area.

"Magic weapon", she mumbles to herself. "Things to get before I go adventuring again: magical healing and a magic weapon. Don't forget."

Lord Menander shows no human-like emotion, but Erdath and Sven will realize that the change in his breathing rythm is a sign of anger.

"Our enemy is ruthless and empowered by an evil far beyond your imagination, Lord Stargloom.
For almost two days, Our warriors s and destruction beyond everything We have seen
in the North's many wars."

The elven king takes off his helmet and looks around.

"Would someone be so friendly and explain Us what, by the mercy of Ordanna,
has happened here?"

gsvenson wrote:
"Grandfather!"

Lord Menander is distracted for a moment when he turns around to greet his grandson.

"Sven! Thank the gods you have survived this madness! We had learned from the brethren
of this..." Menander points to Hrrd, "...brave bearman that your unit, the Corsairs,
had been driven into the swamps by the undead, and that you and your friends had been
lost in the very beginning of the battle."

The Lord of the Cumasti gives Sven a respectful nod.

"It seems that you have inherited your human grandfather's valor and sense for trouble, grandson."

gsvenson wrote:

The wizard, nervous and hasty as ever, has already lost interest in Sven and walks over
to gaze at the bizarre scene:

The dead Westryn all around, the medusa, the broken ring, and all above,
the remains of the swan boat, leaning against the blood stained temple walls.

"This place will need an exorcist... No, quite a few of them, I guess."

Jal absent-mindedly greets Tolleen and Audi, and pats Hrrd on one furry paw.

"Your brother and your tribe are well, my friend. They retreated to an abandoned
monastery north of this city, on the border to the swamp, and when we met them
this morning, they reported no incident with any undead for more than a day."

Seemingly oblivious of the rest of you, Jal then sits next to where Harwan stands -
on the Afridhi throne, actually, and begins to survey the scene...

"The Well of Souls - destroyed! HA! Fascinating..."

Sheridan wrote:

As Tolleen gets up and walks towards her companions,
turmoil can be heard from outside...

A few moments later, three dozen Cumasti knights, in silverly armor, rush into the
throne room, pinning and disarming all of the remaining Westryn. Some of them,
as soon as they see Gawaine, open their vizors and hug your knight friend,
or shake hands with him.

Over you, at the balcony, Zuki and Bobby help the Great Svenny to climb down to the rest of you.

Suddenly, Bobby jumps up again, and disappears between the curtains,
only to return with two smal, cryingl bundles of diapers a moment later.

As he climbs down, one bundle in every arm, and holding himself to the ropes with his bare teeth,
Tolleen realizes the babies in the bundles have green skin:

These must be Gothmog's sons.

Tolleen gently takes one of the bundles from Bobby and tells him to follow her. Racing back to the statue room, where Gothmog was dying, she hopes the creature held on long enough so that he can see his children are safe.

[If no one has an objection, I will incorporate the children into Tolleen's post-campaign/pre-next-campaign story.]

"Oh, well done my Prince." Hrrd speaks to the younger Ursai in their native tongue to keep their conversation more personal. "Our obligations are now complete. Oh, the noise! Quickly, give those things to someone else or I will surely ... no, I must not eat our friend's sons."

"Hurry and claim the giant head before I do! Then you can take it home and be the hero of this journey. 'Robert the Brave' they might call you. Your father, however, might have other names for you for a little while. Now you must construct your first sledge, lash the prize upon it and get it back home. That will surely be an adventure in itself!" Pausing to consider his next thought, he turns back to the young one. "Here, take this." He hands Bobby the prize he took from the priestess' body. "A gift for your wife from the hall of Toska Rusa, taken from her High Priestess. I'll exchange it for the signet ring I gave you."

Hrrd is hoping to instill pride in his quickly growing nephew and also to get him back home.

He takes off the suit of scales that he has worn and stretches out his form for the first time in a month. He knows how important it is to wear, but it chafes him still and there are men here to exercise their control on the scene. He excuses himself from the assembly and takes to the stairs. He climbs as far as they will take him, to a roof most likely, or possibly a balcony. He wants to feel the harsh wind in his fur and let it cleanse the stink of war from him. His wish is for a little silence and some isolation. From up there he stares out over the land and thinks of calmer times when he would roam his woods and stalk the moose. It is certain that he will not return there for many years. He has tasted of adventure and likes it. Let the others get their accolades, their court appointments and promotions. Hrrd will be far happier roaming the wide world seeking his fortune in it. He can have his solitude and still be among people. He found a way to keep Erdath out of his head, didn't he?

Well, enough of this introspection. He will return to the others after an hour or so and will report what he sees of the surrounding territory. Before he leaves though, he will suck in as much of the cold air as he can, summon his full strength and capacity for endurance and let loose a long and mighty roar. This catharsis is the last thing that he will need to do to shake off the tendrils of the enemy that he has fought with this season.

Erdath will rise, "My Lord, we came here to destroy the Well of Souls. We lost close friends to do so. When we arrived we fought this undead dragon and a ghost known as the Maiden. When the well was destroyed by Hrrd and Tolleen, the life force that sustained them fell away, I assume this is so across the north, though I do not know for sure. Baron Ungulian has been killed, though I do not know who delivered the final blow. Then Gorileth, servant and son of the queen of the Westryn appeared right after we destroyed the well. He wanted to capture us and enslave us into a weapon. He has Baron Svenson and threatened to kill him, but fortunately Sven was smarter and teleported behind him and killed him before he could harm the baron. We thought it was over then, but then this Gorgon head appeared and we had to do battle with it. You witnessed its fall. Before we journeyed here, King Uther was gravely injured and was taken by one of Sven's human cousins to safety, do you know if he made it and yet lives?"

OOC: here are Erdath's questions for Jal and Menander, but I am writing them as bullet points rather than as in game roleplaying since he would be asking these in the preparations to leave and in interactions separate from some of the overall group goings on.

General question:
Is there any way to bring Mant back to us?

Jal's questions:
--Is there a way to use the Medusa's head/eyes to create an alchemical substance that could be used to turn creatures to stone? If so, could we work on this together?
--Is there a way to get the ship lose from the well of souls and shrank back down into its original form to give back to Tolleen and still maintain the destruction of the well?
--Can you teach me any spells that will aid me in the future? Specifically to find the dagger I have been seeking in Silverbell or just future spells.
--Does he know of where the dagger could be located?
--Does he need any help with bringing this place back into order?
--Can you help Karl with the serpent tattoo/curse placed upon him?

To Menander:
--Would he take me on as one of his apprentices to become in the future a Fellow of the King's Companion (Player's Guide)?
--What will become of the Westryn? This could be an opportunity to begin healing past wounds between our two people's.
--I plan to seek out (insert dagger's name, sorry I forget what it is known as Des) and plan to return it to his care once it is recovered.

To Hrrd and any others who wish to join me:
--I plan to go back to Silverbell and retrieve a dagger that is important to my people, any who wish to accompany me would be much appreciated. You are then welcome to come back to my home in the elven woods for a visit, but I plan to continue to adventure. There is much knowledge to be gained in ancient and forgotten places. This will give you a chance to see the North.

Harwan bows respectfully to the Elf Lord, then walks over to Great Svenny. "Awaiting your orders, my lord."

Menander will listen carefully, with his face a mask of kingly discpline and majesty,
but Sven and Erdath realize it must affect them deeply.
In truly elvish fashion, the king asks no question in return, though.

However, when Erdath asks him about King Uther's fate,
the king is visibly struggling to fight down his true feelings.

"We had not known that Uther had been wounded.
None of our scouts met the king, nor did we on our journey here."

Immediately, Lord Menander will call for his men and send nothin less than hundred soldiers
out to search every spot for the king of Blackmoor.

uncle-ish advice to to treat his father's orders with more respect,
and plunge on his uncle to hug him for a long moment.

Then, he will take the present for Berriana and jump on the bizaare skull of the gorgon.

On top of the monster, he raises his hands to the ceiling and roars,
just like his father would do!

...Well, maybe a few octaves higher.

As Hrrd is about to loose himself in his meditation - or well-deserved evening nap, as others,
ignorants, would maybe call it, he senses Bravous' voice in his head,
asking for a 'status update'...

And then, ANOTHER ONE.

Who dares to wake me from my hibernation, brmm, brmm?
I am Mjolnir, age-old guardian of the bearmen, brmm, brmm?
If you have to wake me up as rude as you did, brmm, brmm,
at least find me a good stew and an ale to ease my hunger, brmm, brmm.

Outside, Tolleen will find herself with a an entire division of Elven knights
who are already in the process of cleaning the place.
They will look at her with a certain sense of routine in their eyes,
and point her to a cart that is filled with dozens of dead bodies already.

Gothmog has not lived to see his son and daughter safe.

Understanding Tolleen's intent, however, one of the Elven knights,
Sir Nin, whom Tolleen recognizes from back at Blackmoorian army's camp,
and who is visibly happy to find her alive, points her to a pile of armor and weapons
the elves have taken of the fallen soldiers.

Gothmog's gear is among it:
A broken horn, with orcish runes on it.
A small bag, with two small blankets and a pot of honey,
obviously meant for the children.
Gothmog's mighty shield, broken.
His waraxe, and a long, curved dagger Tolleen saw him use.

Not much, but maybe enough for the children to remember who their father was,
if someone is there to teach and tell them.

The wizard, startled from his obvious daydreams, answers as always - hasty and nervous.

"Yeah, certainly. Maybe we will need some time to experiment, but we surely can do that."

- Seeing how Bobby jumps on the dead meduse, the wizard laughs,
apparently relieved by the comical situation.

"...If we can manage to make this little gentleman share the prize of his hunt with us!"

"It appears the boat is lost, but nevermind - we'll get her a new one when we are

The Wizard of the Wood will raise an eyebrow at this question.

"Well, well, I'd say you still have a bit to learn until you can study under my direction,
and since I recall you once considered to take priestly vows,
I am not sure the cabal will approve... But" - winking as he says it- "I'll see what I can do."

That provokes the Wizard of the Wood to laugh out aloud.

"I'd say so, good Erdath! By Skelfer's beard, yes!
Menander and I will surely need you around here some time longer,
at least until the situation is at least remotely secured."

djaykix wrote:

Jal's face will suddenly loose all color, and he'll slowly walk over to Karl.

After he has seen the strange living tattoo, he'll sit down and take a draught
out of a small bottle that suspciously smells of dwarven brandy.

"This, we must discuss later, when I have my books at hand.
Karl, you need to be careful! This cannot mean anything good!
Could it be that you have been touched by the age-old magic of the [i]Ar-Saigu?"

However, Jal pats Karl on the shoulder and assures him that his current state is not deadly,
as far as the wizard knows...

"Certainly, Lord Stargloom." Menander wave his hand, an Elvish gesture of consent.

"But first, We must help our valued human allies to restore peace and public order.
When we leave for the Forest, We will find a way to compensate you for all
the discomfort you endured for your land and your sovereign."

Menander gives a sharp look to the dark elves, unarmed and bound as they are brought
outside.

"We will interrogate them, and hold them liable for any damages they have caused.

of the Willow Queen, we will probably have our human allies trade them against
prisoners the Westryn had made from the Alliance's forces on other ocassions."

"No, absolutely not, Lord Stargloom. For the time being, We need you here
at Our side. If anythign at all, your reputation as a member of this 'Company of

Is there any way to bring Mant back to us?

When Erdath asks this question, the party just exists the temple,
and the corpses before the building have already been carried away.

You run after the cart for the bodies of your friends, but you are too late:
Their bodies have already been thrown on a funeral pyre and are now cremated,
accompanied by the chants of the Cumasti war priests.

Bobby begins to cry and runs right away from the party,
and Jal, who had known Mant from your earlier adventures,
is deeply sadened.

"It would certainly have been possible to revive Mant, to his full vigor."
The wizard said as covers his eyes with a hand and dries a tear.

"What a shame....- Didn't you say Mant had a sister somewhere?
- Because all you would have needed would have
been one of the Tears of the Valkyrie and a person who trully loved Mant...
That would have been just enough..."

Jal looks at Tolleen for a long moment, but doesn't seem to realize..

Harwan bows respectfully to the Elf Lord, then walks over to Great Svenny. "Awaiting your orders, my lord."

The Great Svenny slowly descends the ballustrade and smiles broadly as he greets his old friend.

Then, as you walk out into the refreshing sunlight of spring, he lays his hand on
Harwan's shoulder, whilel supporting his grandson with his other arm.

"To rest is my order, my friend.
To celebrate peace.
To lay down the weapons until the end of all time,
if the good gods are merciful."
